GPS Activity Manager

frequently asked questions.

Below are some common questions we're asked about GAM. If there is anything that you would like added, please email us.

What is GAM?

GAM is short for GPS Activity Manager, a service that works with the excellent SportTracks GPS training log available from Zone Five Software.

GAM allows the data from the SportTracks to be loaded to your online training log. This allows you to view your training data from any computer and any location. There will be a number of mechanisms for you to share you data with your friends, family or training partners.

How does it work?

First of all you will need to register for an account on GAM and download a special piece of software to work with SportTracks. The software is a "plug-in" that allows data from you training log to be copied up to your online training log. It is important to note that the data is copied, and the training log on your PC always has the full and complete information.

So what does GAM allow me to do?

We have got a long list of features we intend to add to the GAM service over the next few months. We don't want to say too much at this time but we are confident that the features will make GAM the best service of its kind available on the web today.

The initial functionality is being kept to a minimum in order to ensure that the "go live" date can be sooner rather than later. Features will include:

  • User Profiles - Allows you to describe who you are to the GAM community. We recognise privacy is important so you will have full control over what you want published.
  • Training Records - The information stored in SportTracks will be available for all of the events you upload. This will include maps, times, calories, splits etc.
  • Mail a friend - This will allow you to email details of your selected events to friends or training partners. This way when you get a new personal best, you can let everyone know about it.

If you want to make any requests for functionality, then let us know by email here.

How much does it cost?

We aim to offer most of the functionality for free. The costs of hosting the service are intended to be met by the advertisements on the site. We will assess how things go over time but we will endeavour to stay away from charging for all but the most resource intensive functions.
